Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Plainsheet ("we," "us," "the service") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using Plainsheet you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information stored on your device
Plainsheet is designed to keep your data with you. The following are saved in your browser's local storage and never transmitted to us:
- Filings you analyze and the extracted metrics
- Your watchlist and any favorited companies
- Your profile details (such as a display name you choose to enter)
- Your preferences (theme, chart settings, and similar)
Because this data lives only in your browser, clearing your browser data — or using the in-app "erase all data" control — permanently deletes it. We cannot recover it for you, because we never had a copy.
2. Information processed to make the app work
To analyze a filing, Plainsheet sends certain requests through our secure backend service (a Cloudflare Worker), which then fetches data from third parties on your behalf. These requests may include:
- The company or filing you request — passed to SEC EDGAR to retrieve the public filing.
- A stock ticker — used to fetch a current price quote.
- Your questions to the AI assistant — sent, together with the relevant filing context, to our AI provider to generate an answer.
These requests are processed to deliver the feature you asked for. We do not use them to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell them.
Human verification
To protect the service from automated abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-respecting alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs. Turnstile is designed to verify that a real person is using the app without tracking you across the web or requiring you to solve puzzles.
3. Technical and security data
Our backend, like virtually all internet services, processes basic technical information necessary to operate securely — such as IP address (used for rate limiting to prevent abuse) and standard request metadata. This is used for security and reliability, not to identify you personally, and is not combined with the local data described in Section 1.
4. Third-party services
Plainsheet relies on a small number of third parties strictly to provide its features:
- SEC EDGAR — the official source of public company filings.
- Cloudflare — hosting, security, and human verification (Turnstile).
- A market-data provider — for live stock price quotes.
- An AI provider — to power the optional filing Q&A assistant.
Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy terms. We share only what is necessary to perform the requested action.
5. Cookies
Plainsheet does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies for security and to operate Turnstile. The app's own settings are stored in local storage rather than cookies.
6. Children
Plainsheet is intended for a general audience interested in financial research and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Your choices
- You can erase all locally stored data at any time from within the app, or by clearing your browser storage.
- You can use the core research features without entering any personal details.
- You can decline to use the AI assistant, in which case your questions are never sent anywhere.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
